KTM 390 Adventure: 10 Accessories for a Safe and Fun Ride

source: enduro21.com

The abbreviation KTM may stand for Kraftfahrzeuge Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, however, it's most synonymous with racing and the bikes the Austrian manufacturer offers are made for that same reason. Although the company has been around since 1934, it didn't start producing motorcycles until 1951.

Today the brand has two owners, Bajaj Auto and Pierer Mobility, however, the racing spirit has stayed with the brand as today, they are more iconic than ever and make some of the most capable motorcycles such as the 390 Adventure. This may not be a strictly racing machine but it can leave you surprised how nippy it is for an adventure bike. Nonetheless, no adventure or such a bike is a true one without some accessories.

Accessories

Bash Plate

Also known as a skid plate, a bash plate is attached to the underside of your 390 in order to protect its engine from impacts. These can be from stones, sharp inclines and mud. With these protective KTM 390 Adventure accessories you can rest assured the heart of your KTM is going to stay operating and unscathed while the same can't be said for the bash plate. But replacing a bash plate is a more affordable outcome than fixing a damaged engine.

Throttle Tube

Something that not a lot of manufacturers do but includes KTM is the placement of lock-on grips. These grips are good, however if you want to upgrade you need to invest in a throttle tube as the stock one is part of the grips and has to be replaced with them.

Grips

Talking about grips, these KTM 390 Adventure accessories are what help you keep your hands on your handlebars more easily and operate the throttle. With aftermarket grips, you can increase the amount of traction you get on your hands which can make it even easier to do the above things. You can even go for softer grips so that your rides are more comfortable, at least for your hands.

Spare Levers

It's always a good idea to have spares on your rides, especially on those that make you cover a lot of miles. In this case, you should consider getting spare brake and clutch levers since you never know what can happen on a long-distance journey. In case they break, you can easily swap out the damaged lever and continue to your destination.

Goggles

Despite the 390 being an adventure bike, you should still make use of goggles as you never know when the road will lead you to a beaten path. This is where you'll be thankful that you brought your goggles as all that dirt and bugs that can get in your way can make for a riding experience that no one wishes to have. You can also use these KTM 390 aftermarket parts on the motorway, just make sure their polarisation doesn't impede your vision.

Neck Brace

A neck brace is as self-explanatory of an accessory as you can get. It helps keep your neck safe from injuries as well as the spine. However, with an adventure bike, you won't always need it, however having one with you at all times can make a big difference. If you decide to change terrain or the terrain decides to change on you, you can put the neck brace on and have a much safer riding experience.

Helmet

Wearing a helmet is as common sense when riding a bike accessory as is putting fuel in it. An ECE 22.05 certified full-face helmet is the way to go and when paired with goggles and a neck brace it can make the difference between life and death. Make sure the helmet feels snug but not too tight on your face and it sits comfortably on your head so that you can ride with it on for a long time and not feel uncomfortable.

Armour

Be it in the form of chest protectors or roost guards, body armour is also part of essential KTM 390 accessories when it comes to safety. You can't anticipate an accident as well as you can anticipate a turn which is why armour is no item to avoid. If a chest protector isn't as comfortable for you you can always go for a roost guard which is a more low-profile version of the former.

Hand Guards

Hand guards are not always required but when riding on a narrow trail with lots of trees from each side or close to other bikes, these KTM 390 aftermarket parts are a must-have. Hand guards go on the handlebars and with their protective design help keep your hands safe from scratches and bumps as well as the wind. They also protect the levers and grips on the handlebars in case of an accident or collision.

Gloves

Paired with hand guards, gloves can help protect your hands even better and provide you with even more grip. Gloves with reinforced palms and knuckle protection are what you should look for.

Pads

Both knee and elbow pads are crucial for your safety, especially during an accident. These KTM 390 accessories can keep your extremities safe even during the hardest of falls, as long as you have them placed on tight.
